RE:DIRECT
Guiding Young People In The Right Direction
The need for positive values based programmes has never been greater in New Zealand. We believe that the Atomic Events Centre's Re:direct programme is going to be exactly that.
Re:direct is an awesome experience for both youth and mentors and we know that every mentoring relationship is unique. We are about programme quality rather than the share number of youth on our programmes.
We currently have 2 strengths based Re:direct programmes with between 8-12 young people in each group. We teach regular life skills at these programmes, which follows the “7 great habits of a teen” (Cool Banana's Training Programme). We know that running an effective youth mentoring programme, which follows credible and effective practices costs money. However, it is cheaper and more successful than the cost per capita of supervising young people in detention, juvenile delinquents, young offenders etc.
Most youth mentoring programs involve young people from high-risk (“at risk“) environments, often from single parent homes. We believe that Re:direct is in a niche area where we have identified youth before they reach the “at risk” in a preventive stage.
