The Programme

During the year you will be required to select one specialist area to be involved in as part of your practical ministry experience. These are mostly in the form of a weekly club programme. Listed below are the options for you to choose from:

Extreme
Reaching out to young people using different interest groups such as skateboarding, outdoor adventure, rock climbing, BMX, mountain biking etc.

Tribes
Most of these projects will be partnered with a local church. Choose from one of the following tribes to work with:

  • Children's - after school, holiday programmes, kids church
  • Junior High - intermediate clubs, bible in schools
  • High School - Merge events, Thirsty Worship

Arts
Different performing arts clubs such as dance, bands, sound/lighting, worship, youth centre, dance parties and visual arts groups.

Culture
Opportunities to work with youth from Maori/Pacific Island cultures and their families.

Sports
Using the medium of sports to reach into the lives of young people. Some may include: Indoor netball, cricket, soccer/football, basketball etc.

There is the option to complete 2 of the following 4 Youth Ministry Diploma papers during the year:

  • Introduction to Youth Leadership
  • Youth Ministry Design and Programming
  • Pastoral Care of Adolescents
  • Mission within Youth Culture

The course is NZQA registered. Unfortunately, as it isn't a full time course, student loans and allowances aren't available.

All students will receive weekly biblical lectures based around personal discipleship and have regular leadership input on crucial leadership issues. You will also attend some top NZ leadership seminars.

These are complimented by weekly ministry opportunities where you can apply your newly learned skills in activities that involve interaction with young people.

The year is designed to provide you with a balance of training and bible study with opportunities to be involved in practical, hands-on ministry experiences.

At the end of the year, you will be awarded the Next Generation Certificate in Youth Work.

The goal is that this would be the best year of your life!
